When talking about cannabis products, the terms “THC” and “CBD” are always highlighted. After all, they are the main potent compounds found in the cannabis plant. But have you heard about “CBN”? Take note, CBN (cannabinol) is different from CBD (cannabidiol).
What is CBN
CBD embodies the positive side of cannabis because it brings many medical benefits. On the other hand, THC is the culprit of the addiction that one gets when consuming cannabis product like weed.
There are different cannabis products though wherein the content of CBD and THC varies. Marijuana has a higher content of THC whereas hemp contains almost entirely of CBD.
But what is CBN?
It is simply a milder version of THC. To be exact, when THC breaks down after a certain amount of time or process, CBN is the result. Given that it is originally THC, CBN can still provide the intoxicating aspects but on a much decreased level.
Scientists found out that when weed was being kept hidden in the dark for many years, oxidation and degeneration occurred at some point. The THC content would dissolve and thus CBN would exist. Another discovery also was that when hemp flowers were harvested in overripe conditions, CBN could be found.
Benefits Of CBN
The research for CBN though seems lacking compared to the amount of studies published regarding THC and CBD. However, it does not mean that there is no positive information about it. So far, studies suggest that it is a great solution to insomnia.
Furthermore, it can also be used for pain relief, anti-inflammation, anti-bacterial, anti-convulsant, and bone marrow cell growth.
